He advises insurance and reinsurance companies, as well as intermediaries, on all aspects of their business including new authorisations, M&A transactions, portfolio transfers, restructurings, corporate governance, policy document review, contractual negotiations and EU and Irish (re)insurance regulatory matters.
Recent significant transactions include advising:
- Allied World, Athora, AXA, Catalina, Chubb, CNP Europe and Markel on various court sanctioned mergers and business acquisitions
- Phoenix Group on the Irish law aspects of the acquisition of Standard Life Aberdeen’s insurance arm
- Groups such as AXA, Chaucer, SCOR and Volkswagen on the authorisation of the respective Irish (re)insurance entities
- Various clients on Solvency II related issues including admissibility and categorisation of own-fund and ancillary own-fund items, Brexit related issues and outsourcing
Niall is a member of the Insurance Institute of Ireland and the British Insurance Law Association. He regularly speaks at insurance industry events and he is a lecturer on the Law Society of Ireland’s professional diploma courses.
Niall is currently ranked by Legal 500 as the Rising Star for Insurance in Ireland and rated as Highly Regarded in IFLR 1000.
