On Friday 27 March 2020, An Taoiseach announced measures, effective from midnight on Friday 27 March until Sunday 12 April 2020, that required all persons to stay at home in all circumstances, except in certain limited situations.
These restrictive measures on movement, which the government has set out in its guidance, have since been extended to Tuesday 5 May 2020. It is expected that certain restrictions will continue beyond this date. These restrictive measures are reflected in the Health Act 1947 (Section 31A -Temporary Restrictions) (COVID-19) Regulations 2020 and the Health Act 1947 (Section 31 A-Temporary Restrictions) (COVID-19) (Amendment) Regulations 2020 made under the Health (Preservation and Protection and Other Emergency Measures in the Public Interest) Act 2020 being enforced by the Garda Síochána.
