Authorisation as a MiFID Investment Firm in Ireland

To become authorised as a MiFID investment firm in Ireland, an entity must apply to the Central Bank of Ireland (Central Bank) for authorisation under the European Union (Markets in Financial Instruments) Regulations 2017, which transposed MiFID II into Irish law.

In May 2024, the Central Bank signalled a change in its approach to the MiFID authorisation process and published three guidance documents for firms seeking authorisation as MiFID investment firms. These documents aim to assist applicants in preparing and submitting their applications and outline the Central Bank’s expectations regarding the application.

In our attached briefing, we break down the revised MiFID authorisation process and outline the steps required for authorisation.
